The Fault in Our Stars is a GREAT YA book-best book I have read in a long time in any genre, We saw the film last night, it held up great. I never would have cast Willem Dafoe as the reclusive writer Van Houten. but he did an amazing job. Shailene Woodley was amazing as Hazel Grace. I have watched this young actress for years and in my opinion, this was her best performance yet. She is definitely one to watch. Not familiar with Ansel Elgort’s work, I thought he was just as brilliant as Gus. He was lovable, funny, charming, and fit the character perfectly. I read the book and listened to it on Audible this spring and didn’t cry, but these two actors had me bawling early on-to be fair I knew what was coming-but I just fell in love with them and their chemistry from the moment they met. I think this is a great film and while our theatre was filled with 90% teenage girls, this is a film for anyone who loves a great story about, love, life, hope, passion and loss.
